Since it is essentially only one element, its structure is much simpler than conventional cells and can be manufactured using less expensive materials that do not degrade over time. Rethinking Solar Cells

Our single element cell can capture light from the visible portion of the solar spectrum; this is a giant leap because it is the visible portion that contains the most energy in the spectrum. Our technology uses geometrically designed antennas that act as both an absorber of radiation and a rectifier thus eliminating the inefficient processes used in current semiconductor based solar cells.
